The good works of our volunteers in Shkrel, a mountainous region in Albania, have been joyfully documented by Don Niko, ( see more posts here: Niko Sheldija) the parish priest who welcomes a Maltese group from the Chaplaincy each year. In one of his posts he says:

“Volunteering is one of the most beautiful ways to show love. In these majestic mountains people from different countries meet, united by respect for nature and each other.
Our Maltese friends take pride when our red and black flag flies, because it represents hospitality, cooperation and values that bind us. Brotherhood knows no boundaries; it is born from the heart, from teamwork, and from the desire to leave behind a better world.
Let's preserve nature, let's strengthen friendship and prove every day that volunteering is a bridge that unites people. Because brotherhood is the hope that has no borders.”

Dear friends,

On the occasion of the Feast of St Ignatius Loyola, you are warmly invited to a Thanksgiving Mass followed by some simple refreshments at 7.00pm on Friday 31st July at the University Chapel. This is an occasion for all members of the Ignatian family in Malta to get together, and to celebrate all we have received while praying for the grace that we may pass it on to others.

We look forward to meeting you!

Blessings,

Christian Life Community (CLC), Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), Pietre Vive, SAC Alumni, Centre for Ignatian Spirituality (CIS), St Aloysius College, University Chaplaincy, Chaplaincies at SAC, Paulo Freire Institute (PFI), Mount St Joseph Retreat House, Eucharistic Youth Movement (EYM), MagisEum, SJ Administration and all staff, together with the Jesuits

Today we bring you an update from the children’s summer camp in Bormla. The camp is run by the Missionaries of Charity (Sisters of Mother Teresa) each year, and our Chaplaincy sends a few student volunteers to join the group.
The camp started this week and here they are after a day’s work 😅. The volunteers wash and prep the childrens’ tshirts at the end of each day, ready for another day of activities ❤️

Our volunteers in Ethiopia have sent us a photo update which we’re sharing here so you too can follow part of their experience. Of course we avoid sharing photos of patients due to privacy, but we hope you can join us in prayer for the group and for all those whom they serve 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Off to Firenze! Early this morning (very early 😅), another group of University of Malta Chaplaincy volunteers set off to Italy to animate a summer camp for children in the poorer areas of Florence. They will be there during July, and will be joined by Jesuit scholastic Andrea Cassar. May it be a fruitful experience all round!

The group of volunteers heading to Egypt will be running no less than three children’s camps this year! Two summer camps will be running simultaneously during July - one in Mokattam garbage village and one in Shubra, both in Cairo. Later in July three of us will join some of the volunteers who will stay on to run a third camp, this time for Sudanese children in Shubra in August ❤️

The day has arrived for our first group of student volunteers to leave for their service experience in Ethiopia. They will be offering palliative care and accompaniment to poor patients in the House of the Dying, run by the Missionaries of Charity, and also at an orphanage nearby. May this be a very meaningful experience for them all and may they bring comfort to those who need it most 🙏🏽🙏🏽
