Welcome to the Department of German at the University of Malta. This page provides information on studying German in Malta and related events. General, B.A.

The Department of German at the University of Malta is a young department with a highly committed team of lecturers with Maltese and German backgrounds offering a wide range of courses: B.A. Honours, M.A. (by research), Ph.D. and a newly launched Diploma in German, a part-time evening course with a focus on practical language skills. The Department also contributes to the University's DegreePlus programme, the Faculty of Arts' M.A. in "Literary Tradition and Popular Culture" and the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies. The Department hosts a lectureship co-funded by the German Academic Exchange Service and offers advice on scholarships for summer language courses and studying abroad.

Great interview with German actress Sandra Hüller. Her latest film 'Fatherland' is currently showing at Spazju Kreattiv Cinema!

Hüller on German history, the present and the future: “One advantage of being born in the GDR and seeing it fall apart, or reunified, however you want to call it, is you learn no system is for ever. And that is interesting in a time when the things we’ve done so long don’t work any more. So maybe it is good to think of different ways they could work in future.”

New film Fatherland took Sandra Hüller back to a divided Germany. She talks about damaged dreams, Hollywood feelgood and - just maybe - appearing in the new Marvel movie

Register for the study-unit TTI3000: 'Introduction to Translation and Interpreting', which starts in Semester 2. Open to second- and third-year undergraduate students only.

This study-unit partly replaces the former DegreePlus study-unit 'Introduction to Interpreting'.
